Project Description:Construction
of the 3 mile MD 5 bypass includes a four-lane divided highway with two
cast-in place concrete bridges and 1,650 LF of noise barrier
wall. MD 5 will cross over a newly widened MD 231 that includes
construction of 2 traffic roundabouts. The project requires 230,000
cubic yards of excavation to be placed in roadway fills and 364,000
cubic yards of excavation to be hauled off site. An additional
210,000 cubic yards of select and capping borrow will be hauled in to
complete the 230,000 SY of new roadway. The project will be constructed
in very environmentally sensitive wetlands and waters of the U.S, with
construction of an 11-acre off-site wetland mitigation landscaped site.
