The Structural Engineer is primarily committed to office operations and is generally responsible for all aspects of structures administration and engineering, owner and subcontract relations and item closeout. The Structural Engineer will be involved in negotiations over scope and cost and the resolution of engineering issues. This includes working to ensuring plans and specifications are being adhered to with quality control measures implemented. Accurate and timely reporting of daily work, quantities and the associated documentation requirements needed. Project Engineer is accountable to the Project Manager, Field Supervision, and all other assigned supervision. Supervisory Responsibilities This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include but are limited to: planning work, appraising performances, training and mentoring. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Demonstrates understanding of standard concepts, practices and procedures . required for the construction of foundations, bridges, retaining walls, and other structures.
- Interprets designs and drawings for crafts installing materials and quantifications.
- Understands necessary control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials or equipment.
- Review submittals against specifications.
- Reviews mock-up and/or shop drawings and specifications.
- Understands subcontractor job specifications and scope of work.
- Able to coordinate with Subcontractors and Suppliers.
- Responsible for the review and maintenance of subcontractor non-compliance and coordinates with QA/QC.
- Verifies that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings and specifications.
- Researches and resolves drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interference, and errors.
- Researches and proposes solutions to quality control issues.
- Creates and processes RFI’s.
- Prepares field design change requisitions and “as built” drawings, as required.
- Demonstrates schedule understanding in coordination with construction logistics and construction sequencing.
- Prepares and disseminates all required documentation records such as status reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc., to supervisor.
- Understands company’s quality control plan and takes weekly photos to document any quality control issues.
- Reviews and comments on viability of design as required. Conducts value engineering functions.
- Aware of target vs. actual productivity on self-performed work.
- Sensitive to Environmental issues and management of them.
- Helps to create a safe work site and identifies job hazards to reduce danger.
- Understands company safety program and participates in safety inspections.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations to include health, safety, and welfare as appropriate.
Participates in job walks and documents and reports findings.
- Possess the ability to attend meetings.
- Understands PCO process and minimal ability in identifying PCO/change orders.
- Performs quantity takeoffs.
Other Duties:
- Understand the impacts of project performance on insurance and bond.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of discipline, construction technology, design, applicable codes standards, etc., required.
- Analyzes and resolves construction process problems and issues and effectively communicates and interfaces with all levels of personnel.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Demonstrates consistent ability to be dependable, consistent, diligent, and thorough.
- Exercises creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks accurately in a compressed timeframe.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
