Tutor Perini Awarded $81M Task Order at Andrews Air Force Base
5/14/2010

Tutor Perini Corporation was awarded a task order on April 30, 2010 worth $81.2 million for the repair/replacement of West Runway 01L/19R at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. Tutor Perini bid the project under its Sustainment, Restoration & Modernization Acquisition Task Order Contract (SATOC) with the Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency (AFCESA) at Tyndall AFB located in Panama City, Florida.

This task order at Joint Base Andrews is for the removal and replacement of 11,300 feet of concrete runway. The new runway will have a concrete depth of 19.5 inches. The runway will be constructed in phases over a 345 calendar day construction period to minimize disruption to on-going operations. The work also includes the development of an environmental protection plan, removal and replacement of unsuitable subgrade soils, NAVAID relocation, approach lighting, arrestor systems and removal and replacement of environmentally impacted soils.

Tutor Perini’s management and construction team includes personnel from two subsidiary companies, Perini Management Services, Inc., Framingham, MA and Cherry Hill Construction, Jessup, MD. Resources from both of these companies have recently been utilized successfully for a similar project at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, which is scheduled for completion in July 2010.

Joint Base Andrews is the home of the 316th Wing and the 89th Airlift known as “The President’s Wing” and Air Force One. The Base frequently hosts the President and Vice President of the United States, congressional delegations and foreign heads of state.
